Austin-based Big Red Dog Engineering and Consulting continues to grow with the acquisition of MSP Engineering Group PLLC, a structural engineering firm based in Sugar Land.

The six-person Sugar Land office will remain open and will be Big Red Dog’s fifth office in Texas, according to a spokesman. The deal closed Nov. 15.

“The MSP addition contributes great apartment-specific design expertise to our multifamily market sector,” Big Red Dog CEO Will Schnier said in a statement.

Gerry Wynne and Victor Cordova, the founding principal and executive vice president of MSP, will become the structural market leaders for Big Red Dog and maintain the Sugar Land office.

Big Red Dog acquired structural engineering company MSP in Sugar Land; its team members are, from left, Arnaud Thibonnier, Victor Cordova, Clint Legendre, Pedro Ochoa, Tom Rodriguez, Gerry Wynne and Antonio Fernandez.

Big Red Dog has 115 employees, including about 13 who work at its existing downtown Houston office. The downtown Houston office has worked on several car dealerships and apartment projects in the Houston area such as Central Houston Nissan and The District At Washington. MSP has worked on Houston projects such as Pearl City Centre and YES Prep Northline Campus.

Schnier co-founded Big Red Dog in 2009 after working for Bury, now Stantec, and Carter & Burgess, now Jacobs.

Big Red Dog recently landed on the 2017 Inc. 5000, which tracks some of the fastest-growing private companies in the country. It came in at No. 1,316 with three-year growth of 310 percent and 2016 revenue of $13.4 million.
